Nourishing Nothing

Jamie Ridler poses this question: What do you wish to nourish?

My answer is simple, zen-like, but with my eclectic personality, that’s not easy to manage.

I wish to nourish the spaces in my house that have nothing.  I have become intrigued with those voids that beg for the eye to pause and for the spirit to take refuge.  I want to nourish my desire to let go, to give up the material for more time with less.

DreamScape

I have spent a good deal of my life holding onto the things that came with losing loved ones.  I am the keeper of this trinket and that treasure.  I needed that stuff for awhile, but depend on it less.  Nothing is now more of a commodity than the somethings that tried to fill the voids. Nothing helps me get closer to my dream of being available to move out of state in a few years.  Nothing gives me freedom.

Taking My Own Advice

But with nothing comes a certain anxiety that something helped fill.  With nothing, one must nourish the self because nothing stands in the way of seeing what the somethings might have hid. So with this wish comes too a wish for letting go of the somethings within that cover up the truest essence of me. This will take courage, but in the end, if I do it this way, I will have nothing to lose.

Beautiful image of the cloister or monastery – shows the nourishing effect of emptiness, of a way without anything extra. As you wish for yourself, so I wish for you too!

Oh I love that image so much of the collage with “free your mind”…
I understand totally. I have had to let go … discard … öut with the old … for my move to the beach castle …after 30 years living in the mountains “much of the stuff leftover from my marriage of 35 years and the life I held”,,it’s been so freeing …to do .. (took time though) ..
As you wish for yourself I so lovingly wish this for you also. xx

    Rae,

I feel the same way. We as a society must learn to simplify and as an artist who collects everything, loves it all and uses it most of the time in my mixed media work, I feel the urge to let go an be more Zen. Thanks for your thoughts as it also brings up my need to let go…. It is part of my need to listen to my Monastic Self.

    Artfully Yours,
    Creative Bag Lady

  17. Grace says:

That last part is a very powerful wish indeed…learning to let go of the things that block us or keep us from being our authentic selves may be what a good bit of this journey is all about! And you’re so right – when all that remains is the “true” essence of who we are, there is absolutely nothing to lose!

As Rae wishes for herself, I wish for her also!
