We all know the bear hibernates in Winter. They nestle up in their dens creating new life, embracing re-creation. Perhaps you have even heard it said that Winter is the perfect time to go inward for yourself.
“Be like the bear and let Winter be your time of introspection. Let the coolness of the season send you into the cave.”
We don’t have bears in South Texas (but we do have kitties) and if we did, I can guarantee they would be outside enjoying our crisp 50-70 degree whether once Winter was upon us.
Domino (who we miss dearly)
And like any good South Texan, they would feel that pull into the cave during the Summer. The heat would send them indoors to conserve energy with a long nap.
Honey and Gypsy
They would seek out the shelter of any strip of shade they could find in the 104 degree sun. They would go deep into their imagination where they could envision all the possibilities life would have to offer at the end of the sweltering, sun-drenched juncture from June to September.
Gypsy (my what big eyes you have)
That’s where you will find me: bearing up under a thin, cotton sheet in the breeze-path of a droning fan, chasing the long shadows of limb and leaf across parks and parking lots, becoming a creature of the night where some reprieve from the day’s fieriness lets up (a bit), and seeking shelter in the mystery of a journal or book with iced water or tea in hand.
Eric and Honey (cuddle monkeys)
Just had to share some of our cat family with you. Most of the time if we are beared up, they are right there with us. When we are journaling or reading, they are in the middle of it. And even when finding some coolness in the shade, we are sitting side by side with them.
