Freak Flag {let it fly}

Yep, seven years! And happy ones, too! Our journey has been kind of magical, really. We met in the midst of me telling a story about a drum at a medieval reenactment. The story was essentially about following your heart. Well, we followed ours, right down the isle.

At the wedding, some of our best friends led us to the altar with drums rapping out the beat. I know a lot of folks at the wedding weren’t sure what to think about it, but we were just being ourselves, so we let them think what they wanted.  I told the story again at the reception and it has become a kind of anthem for our lives together. Follow your heart.

For our anniversary this year we got a drum to remind us of that message. When I play it, I feel like my heart’s ability to be the navigator of my life grows stronger and more clear. (The word Clarity was my word for 2012, and I feel it really taking hold!)

I have been hearing that for myself a lot in regards to this thing I am calling Creativity Tribe. I stepped into it with caution, keeping it safe. You see, one thing I know about creativity is that safety is important. That is, I want to create from a place of peacefulness and safety. So I have been working at building a site that gives allowance to Creative Spirits of all kinds of backgrounds, all forms of expressions. This space isn’t just about visual art. I want it all!

But over the last couple of weeks, a shift has been happening. You know how you start seeing messages from the Universe?! Well, I think they are always there, but certain things start to jump out at you when you are ready to grow. I must be feeling safe, because I keep getting encouragement for pushing it outside the box, getting a little freaky, expressing my unique self more and more.

I don’t know where this will go, but I do know that safety is there for a reason….so that you can be unsafe! So you can get a little wild without getting hurt. So you can love deeper than you have ever loved before, yell louder, cry harder, color outside the lines and try blending a couple of notes that just might be off key if you tilt your head just right.

That’s where we are going now…my sweetie and me. We are starting to refine our expression of love so that it doesn’t have to be so darned safe.  And I think that is spilling over into our individual lives…and into this community.

Maybe it will be infectious. Maybe you will begin to wonder where you have held yourself back with your creative life. Where you would get a little freaky if someone promised not to judge you….even knowing that someone out there will. What if you had a tribe of people, a circle, a gathering, that held a space of acceptance for YOU?! What would you do with that?!  We are here. I am here. Let your freak flag fly! I promise to be dazzled by it!
